Day 2 – Modern Times Beer – Hazy Mosaic IPA

Tom BrewerFebruary 3, 2026April 18, 2026

Modern Times Beer + Coffee was founded in 2013 in San Diego and is better known for its hazy IPAs, experimental sour beers, and pastry stouts. Today, Modern Times beer is distributed throughout California, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Utah, Hawaii, and Texas. Since its inception, the Modern Times multiverse has expanded to include a robust and ever-growing barrel program, coffee roastery, and tasting room locations.

As of this year, the company has undergone significant changes and ownership shifts.

In late 2024, Modern Times closed its original Point Loma production facility. Its beers are now contract-brewed by AleSmith Brewing in their Miramar, San Diego facility to ensure the beer remains locally made.

Modern Times is now owned by Maui Brewing Company, operating under the umbrella group Craft ‘Ohana.

Modern Times Hazy Mosaic IPA Profile

  • ABV: 7.2%
  • IBU: 55
  • Hops: A blend of Mosaic, Simcoe, Sultana and Ekuanot hops
  • Appearance: Hazy, orange-golden, with a average head that dissipates quickly
  • Aroma: Average hazy aromatics that are commonly citrus-forward
  • Flavor Profile: Tropical fruit, orange, tangerine, pineapple with resinous notes
  • Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, with a smooth, silky, and “juicy” mouthfeel due to the inclusion of oats and white wheat in the malt bill
  • Overall Impression: Enjoyed the profile and found it to be reflective of most hazys but did not taste the resinous notes nor the West Coast style backbone. In my opinion, this beer is reflective of a traditional hazy IPA that includes Mosaic and Simcoe hops. Mosaic for fruity notes and Simcoe to add some “complexity”. The wheat and malt bill smooth most everything over
