A vibrant red kiosk featuring 'Lakewood Brewing Co.' signage and several beer taps with a Texas theme, set up at an outdoor festival.

Lakewood Brewing Company, founded in 2012 by Wim Bens in Garland, Texas, is a family-owned independent brewery famous for its “Temptress” Imperial Milk Stout, the top-selling craft stout in Texas.

The brewery, originally inspired by Belgian beer styles, focuses on creating high-quality, approachable, and creative beers that have made them a staple in the North Texas craft scene.

It offers a diverse portfolio of “Seriously Fun Beer,” featuring a taproom, kitchen, and a large, renovated, family-friendly outdoor beer garden.

Deeper Dive Into Lakewood Brewery

  • Location & Vibe: Situated in Garland, Texas, the brewery features a “trendy” and “contemporary” atmosphere, including a new kitchen serving food, a “Lakewood Loft” for events, and games like foosball and cornhole.
  • Signature Brews: While famous for The Temptress and its various, highly-awarded iterations (e.g., Sin Mint, Salted Caramel), they also produce staples like Lakewood Lager, Tangerine Queen, and various seasonal/sour beers.
  • The Temptress: Their flagship Imperial Milk Stout is the best-selling craft stout in Texas. It serves as the base for the popular “Seduction Series,” featuring variations like Peanut Butter, French Quarter, and Raspberry.
  • The brewery features a 2,000-square-foot indoor taproom and a 4,000-square-foot outdoor beer garden.
  • Family & Pet Friendly: The facility is kid-friendly (including a gated play area) and allows dogs in the outdoor beer garden.
  • Events & Tours: They offer free tours on Saturdays and Sundays. The venue also hosts private events in spaces like the “Lakewood Loft” and “Founder’s Taproom”.
  • Awards & Recognition: Lakewood has received national recognition, including awards from the U.S. Beer Tasting Championship and the New York International Beer Competition.
  • Distribution: Their beers are widely available throughout Texas at bars, restaurants, and retailers.

Temptress Pecan Pie Imperial Milk Stout

  • Style: Imperial Milk Stout
  • ABV: 9.1%
  • IBU: 56
  • Hops:  While primarily malt-forward, the beer features a notable, lingering note of herbal hops that cuts through the sweetness on the finish.
  • Appearance: Pours opaque, dark brown to black, typically with a thick, beige-colored head.
  • Aroma: It features a strong pecan aroma and a full-bodied, rich texture, often with a slightly smoky finish.
  • Flavor Profile: The beer presents a sweet, nutty, and roasty profile with notes of toasted pecans, caramel, and a hint of molasses, designed to taste like pecan pie.
  • Mouthfeel: It offers a full, thick, and smooth body with medium carbonation.
  • Overall Impression: We view the Pecan Pie Temptress as a decadent evolution of their flagship Imperial Milk Stout. Inspired by the “Drunken Nut” pie from Emporium Pies, it targets a specific dessert-heavy profile. This stout is sweet, smooth, tasty, and the “Pecan Pie” flavor is evident from start to finish. Great flavored milk stout and one that belongs in your fridge.

Community Reviews and Comments

  • Pegasus: Very nicely done. I regret that I did not find this until after the 2025 Winter holidays, it would have been an excellent accompaniment to Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner.
  • Anonymous (Untapped): Just like dessert at Grandmas… Except it’s a 9.1% stout. Temptress with Pumpkin Pie spice and a touch of graham cracker. Thanks mem mem!
  • Justin Carter: Earned the Cheers To You! (Level 10) badge!
  • TJ Turner: Poured a heavily unfiltered black with brown adjunct bits floating around and a tan head. Tasted toasted pecans, sweet molasses, cocoa, and dark chocolate bitters on the finish. Medium carbonation, thick body. Overall balanced, not too sweet.
  • John Parrish: Lakewood is one of the MANY beers I miss from back home that I can’t find out here. Their Stouts are a holiday tradition for me.
  • Mr. Brew: It is quite expensive but it is a worthy beer to try, especially if you love a good stout or if you’re curious what your neighbors are drinking, as we are.
