Day 1 – SpindleTap Houston Haze – New England Hazy IPA

Tom BrewerFebruary 2, 2026April 18, 2026
A lively brewery interior filled with people sitting at tables and enjoying drinks, with a bar in the background and multiple TVs displaying sports.

SpindleTap Brewery, founded in 2015 in Houston, TX, is a premier, family-friendly destination known for pioneering the “Juiceton” NEIPA (New England IPA) style in the area. Named after the historic Beaumont oil gusher, it features a large, industrial-style taproom and the 3.5-acre “SpindlePark,” offering extensive outdoor activities like putt-putt, pickleball, and sports courts.

Key Details About SpindleTap Brewery

  • Brewery Focus: Largely credited with introducing, hazy, juicy IPAs to the Houston scene, such as Houston Haze, Heavy Hands, and 5% Tint.
  • SpindlePark: A large, 20,000 square foot outdoor entertainment complex that includes a 9-hole mini-golf course, Wiffle ball/kickball field, basketball court, and cornhole.
  • Atmosphere: Known as a family-friendly venue with ample seating, frequently hosting food trucks (like Texzas pizza) and offering a variety of craft beer styles, including a popular Mexican Chocolate Brown Ale.
  • THC Drinks: In addition to beer, SpindleTap offers a line of, lab-tested, THC-infused cocktails, such as Ranch Waters and Mai Tais.
  • Location & Growth: Located in Houston, with plans for a second location at Hobby Airport.
  • Houston Haze is the flagship New England-style IPA from SpindleTap Brewery, a staple of the Houston craft beer scene. It is widely considered one of the best examples of the “hazy” style in Texas, often praised for its consistency and approachable tropical profile.

SpindleTap Houston Haze IPA Profile

  • ABV: 7%
  • IBU: 55 The profile is characterized as low-bitterness due to the late addition of hops, focusing on aroma and flavor rather than sharp, lingering bitterness.
  • Hops: This Houston Haze is Double Dry Hopped (DDH) with a classic pairing of Citra and Galaxy hops. These hops are added after fermentation to maximize aroma and flavor without increasing bitterness.
  • Appearance: Completely opaque and hazy and typifies this brew category.
  • Aroma: Touted to have guava, pineapple, and grapefruit aromas but did not agree with these findings.
  • Flavor: A smidge of passionfruit with hints of orange.
  • Mouthfeel: This Houston Haze has a soft texture and a somewhat satisfying sensation on the palate without feeling heavy.
  • Overall Impression: A little “thin” in both flavor and finish and not reflective of most hazy IPAs featured. Didn’t sense the DDH nor the structure of the aroma referenced above.
