Lone Pint Brewery

Lone Pint Brewery, opened in 2012 in Magnolia, TX, makes ales that are distinctly, unmistakably Texan. They craft easy-to-drink local brews with an enjoyable hoppiness and delicious flavors and aromas. Their state-of-the-art beer garden and brewery in Magnolia is open every day of the week to serve the core brew, as well as anniversary beers, limited releases, and special series ales.

Their flagship beer is the internationally renowned Yellow Rose, a highly-rated SMaSH IPA (Single Malt and Single Hop) famous for its bold pineapple, grapefruit, and blueberry notes. Other popular brews include the Neighbor of the Beast IPA and Gentleman’s Relish Brown Ale.

About Void Crusher

  • Style: Black IPA – A Black IPA is an American ale that looks like a stout but drinks like a hoppy India Pale Ale. It achieves its jet-black color using debittered dark malts, which provide a smooth, subtle cocoa or coffee backdrop without the harsh, astringent roastiness typically found in heavy dark beers. Check out YouTube vid from Life is Brewtiful for more info.
  • ABV: 7%
  • IBU: 67
  • Hops: Columbus, Amarillo, and Simcoe.
  • Malt: Pilsner, Carafa III, Chocolate Wheat.
  • Appearance: Dark to opaque with a thick, frothy head.
  • Flavor Profile: Smokey/chocolate flavor much like a Porter or Stout. Roasty malt bill.
  • Mouthfeel: Lingering smokey finish with a great balance between sweet and bitter
  • Food Paring: Smoked meats, blackened seafood, steak, and blue cheese.

Overall Impression: This is a medium-body IPA that straddles the fence between a being a smokey IPA and a traditional Porter that combines a high roast factor without the characteristics of a Stout. It’s the type of beer that you can drink a couple before or after dinner and not feel overpowered by its flavor profile. You won’t find much of a hop kick either because this trio, combined with Pilsner and Chocolate Wheat, balances everything out. Stop by Lone Pint and enjoy one on tap.

  • champ103:…Fans of the style should love this, I do enjoy it as well. Even if its not my favorite style.
  • ttoadee: Taste sees coco, resiny cedar, coffee, citrus rind, dark kilned malt, some dried stone fruit. Medium to full mouthfeel. Finish is blackened grain and resiny bitterness. Yum.
  • DillanW: Great roasty and hoppy bitter together.
  • KenE: Roasty, dark, chocolate, hoppy.
  • ER: Glad to see a black IPA still on the market. Roasty and hoppy, with the right amount of bitterness along with some maltiness.
  • ThomasW: The flavor is toasted malts, citrus, grapefruit, bakers chocolate, and a pine resin like bitterness. I think it is pretty good.
  • DarrenO: Nice and smoky, yum.
  • KevinRed: A drink delivers roast, a touch of chocolate, cedar, a nice hops bitterness and some earth. Nice.

  • Sublimely Self-Righteous: (Stone Brewing) – Often considered the benchmark of the style. It delivers a rich, dark pour with assertive resinous hops, pine, and just enough cocoa/roast.
  • Black Hearted: (Bell’s Brewery) – An IPA-forward take that blends classic piney, citrusy hops with a deep, dark malt character without leaning into heavy burnt notes.
  • Midnight Moonlight: (Fat Head’s Brewery) – A highly decorated, award-winning Cascadian Dark Ale that perfectly matches coffee-like malts with crisp Pacific Northwest hops.
  • Wookey Jack: (Firestone Walker) – An unfiltered, dark ale blending earthy hops, malted rye, and a smooth, bittersweet finish.
  • Damien: (Surly Brewing Company) – A dry-hopped black ale featuring intense aromas of pine and tangerine that cut right through the dark roasted malt.
