Deeper Dive Into Dogfish Head Corp.
If you weren’t aware, Dogfish Head Brewery merged with Boston Beer Company in a $300 million cash-and-stock deal driven by a long-term friendship between founders Sam Calagione and Jim Koch.
Sam Calagione joined the Boston Beer Board of Directors, and Dogfish Head continued operating its Delaware locations, including its brewery and restaurants.
The partnership aimed to strengthen their position against industry consolidation, combining Dogfish Head’s off-centered, innovative craft style with Boston Beer’s national reach, creating a powerhouse in the high-end, independent craft beer market.
- Production Facilities: The brewery houses a large, modern 200-barrel system alongside a smaller, 1996, half-barrel pilot system. Key areas include a wood-aging room with large wooden vessels and an automated bottling line.
- The Tasting Room: Features 40+ taps, including brewery exclusives and spirits from their distillery, with options for growler/crowler fills. It also serves pizza, salads, and sandwiches.

- Tours: Daily, guided, and in-depth “Grain to Glass” or distillery tours are available, covering the brewing and distilling processes, often including tastings.
- Atmosphere: The facility is designed with unique, artistic elements reflecting their “off-centered” brand, including a merch shop for apparel and accessories.

Community Reviews & Comments

- Risk_Parody: Excellent drinkability with full, pine and citrus IPA taste.
- blueshawk69: Flavorful well-balanced ipa with a crisp, clean aftertaste. Not sure that 6% is a “session” brew but it’s easy to see slamming a few of these.
- Wattie83: Balance is key here, as bitterness doesn’t overpower the beer, but it is present late in the sip and in the aftertaste. Feel is medium bodied, well carbonated, and very pleasant. Overall, easy to drink, very tasty, balanced. A classic IPA that still connects.
- MCLEE: Never get tired of cult classics like Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA. It’s hoppy for a reason, but it’s not overly bitter, so it’s drinkable and enjoyable on it’s own or with food. This beer is timeless.
- margeebeerme: Best go to IPA. Always keep stocked in fridge!
