Boulevard’s Irish Cream Barrel Aged Stout, brewed by Boulevard Brewing Company, is the largest craft brewery in Missouri and a major cultural landmark in Kansas City. Founded in 1989 by John McDonald, it has grown from a local startup into the 4th largest craft brewing company in the U.S. under its parent company, Duvel Moortgat USA.
If you’re not familiar with Duvel Moortgat, the brewery has been in business since 1871 and produces some of the most iconic brands like Duvel, Chouffe, De Konink, and Maredsous.
Their US lineup, in addition to Boulevard, includes Firestone Walker, 805, and Ommegang.
The Boulevard Irish Cream Barrel-Aged Stout is a limited-release, nitrogenated imperial milk stout created in collaboration with Five Farms Irish Cream. It is brewed to mimic the flavor profile of Irish cream liqueur by utilizing authentic Irish ingredients and specialized aging techniques.
About Boulevard Brewing Company’s Irish Cream Barrel Aged Stout

- Style: Barrel-Aged Nitro Imperial Milk Stout
- ABV: 11%
- IBU: 25-35
- Appearance: Intense black, often with a dark brown to tan head.
- Flavor Profile: Rich roasted malts, chocolate, and coffee notes from the base stout merge with vanilla, toasted coconut, caramel, and whiskey notes from the wood.
- Aroma: Deeply aromatic, often displaying intense vanilla, dried fruit, and spirit-driven warmth.
- Mouthfeel: Full-body, smooth, and sweet with a lingering vanilla/cherry finish.
- Overall Impression: We found this Irish Cream barrel-aged stout to be leaning toward the sweet side but not overly sweet. The stout side is void of any bitterness that is most likely attributed to the barrel-aged component of the finish process. It’s not a stout that we feel would be a staple in your fridge but might be pretty tasty poured over a bowl of Haagen-Daz Vanilla Ice Cream.

- Suds: From a tall aluminum can, we first thought the beer was called ‘cow tips’. It is a dark, black, opaque liquid. The head is a brownish tan color. Wonderful aroma mixed with coffee, malt, and a sweetness with some woody notes. The taste is balanced, but with an thick fullness in front. Roasted coffee, dark chocolate, grain and plenty of complexity. The ABV is hidden at first, but creeps up. Flavorful and satisfying.
- HorseheadsHophead: Huge tan head, excellent retention and lacing. Definitely hits the mark for the Irish dry nitro stout take…Smoother and rich on the palate; some milk chocolate, liquor, candy-chocolate, definitely heavy and sweet…This is one of the most confusing beers I have ever tried. It’s equally gross and good. I hate it, and yet love it. Would I buy another pack? Yes.
- russpowell:…ABV is fairly well hidden, easy to drink, glad I got to try this, but not sure I’d buy it again.
- bbtkd: Boulevard Irish Cream BA Imperial Milk Stout, 11% ABV. Pours black with a sturdy two-finger beige nitro head that left no lacing. Aroma is Irish Cream and lactose. Taste follows, moderately sweet, slightly bitter. Smooth mouthfeel, overall excellent. Nice twist on a BA stout, using Irish Cream barrels. Update; after second one, changing the score from 4.46 to 4.31. Aroma is better than the taste.
- mrmelroseryan71: Fantastic stout. Perfect balance of sweet, boozy, and creamy. Great mouth feel. Great combo of stout, Irish Cream and Whiskey. Extremely enjoyable.
